Background
Torpoint’s relationship with Crossley Heath School spans the last 12 years with Torpoint winning the contracts to deliver 5 independent projects worth a combined value of £1,276,000.00. With over 1000 pupils aged 11-18 years on site it was critical for all works to be carried out efficiently, effectively and with minimal disruption to everyday school life. It was essential to achieve maximum Health & Safety on site at all times to safeguard the welfare of the pupils, staff and public at this busy site.

Description of External Works
This phase of the works became particularly high profile as it attracted the largest grant that has ever been given outside of London.

It required sympathetic restoration to ensure the character of this historically significant building was retained.

The works were extensive and included the removal, cleaning and relaying of every single roof slate. The pediments were removed, repaired, cleaned and replaced. The roof hips were replaced and all masonry repaired. The lead work was repaired and finally the entire building was re-pointed and involved removing the old mortar by hand with a hacksaw.
