Woodacre Lane, Bardsey, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS17 9DG
Architect:
Merrell O’Flaherty
Total Value:
£200,000
Project:
Extension and Alterations Works to existing care home.
Background
Castle Hill Nursing Home provides residents with the type of care that requires the specific skills of a qualified nurse or the supervision of a qualified nurse.
Torpoint were appointed to construct a two storey extension to create new bedrooms and day facilities for residents along with additional alteration works. The nursing home remained open throughout the works with residents, staff and the general public living, working and visiting the care home as normal.
Communication regarding Health & Safety remained paramount throughout the construction process with Torpoint constantly planning and updating the owners of the care home on fire exit points, out of bounds areas and planned periods of disruption.
Torpoint had to conduct the works sensitively and with a focus on minimising noise and disruption to the existing residents. Consultation with residents, staff and the local community resulted in the decision to limit noisy works to pre-agreed and specific times of the day.
In addition Torpoint sourced the same stone, roof tile and windows as the existing building to enable the new extension to blend in with its surroundings demonstrating empathy with the local environment
